The Evergreen Chorale is excited to present two unique events at Center Stage this November. The first is their fourth annual “Shining Stars” fundraiser at which they showcase a group with whom they performed during the previous season. Last December they collaborated with the Boulder-based percussion ensemble Kutandara to present a concert built around traditional and African-themed holiday music and they have invited them to be the “stars” this year. Kutandara’s lively music fuses ancient traditions with indie-pop, rock, jazz, gospel, classical and world folk. Attendees are invited to arrive by 7:00pm to have ample time to enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and beverages (wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee and tea) before the concert, and will be offered desserts during the intermission, all included in the admission price of $55/adults and $45/under 21. This evening of great food and wonderful music is a fundraiser to support the Evergreen Chorale’s operation of Center Stage, a historic property which serves as a performing arts center for the mountain community and is the performance home for the Chorale’s two annual musical theater productions as well as the Evergreen Players and Evergreen Children’s Chorale.

The second special production is a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach, which will be performed by Phamaly Theatre Company on Sunday, November 20 at 3:00pm at Center Stage. Directed by Bryce Alexander, this rendition of Roald Dahl’s treasured novel will take you inside an oversized peach with James and some human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities. When the peach rolls into the ocean, this diverse group faces hunger, sharks, and plenty of complications. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together. The 3:00pm matinee is suitable for all ages, and patrons are invited to stay after the performance for a talkback with the actors.

Denver-based Phamaly Theatre Company (formerly known as The Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League) produces professional scale plays and musicals year-round throughout the Denver Metro region, cast entirely of performers with special needs across the spectrum (physical, cognitive, emotional, blindness, deafness…etc.). This performance is made possible by the generous underwriting from Kids to College Pediatric Dentistry, which has offices in both Evergreen and Littleton. Phamaly’s three performances of James and the Giant Peach at Lakewood Cultural Center have sold out, and they are looking forward to sharing this show with an audience in Evergreen. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets well in advance since we are presenting only one performance at Center Stage.
